High School Baseball in Fort Mill

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads won the IP Classic baseball tournament in Georgetown with a 9-5 win over Laurens Sunday.

Catawba Ridge used a four run fifth inning to help propel them to the win, despite making seven errors. The Copperheads improved to 4-0 on the season and rattled off 12 hits in the game.

Jackson Mullen had a big day at the plate going 2-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Peyton Dhein also went 3-3 with two RBIs. Mullen got the win on the mound going four innings while allowing four runs on four hits and striking out four.

Laurens scored first in the top of the third inning, but Catawba Ridge rallied to score three in the bottom of the third inning. Laurens then went up 5-3 before the four run fifth inning by the Copperheads.

The Fort Mill baseball team finished off their tournament at the Coastal Invitational in Pawleys Island with a 5-4 win over North Myrtle Beach to start the season at 3-0.

Both teams had nine hits as Fort Mill was led by Michael Rogers who went 3-4 for three RBIs and Josh Patterson who went 2-3. Brent Laughter went 1-3 with a home run in the game and Alex Carreiro went four innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out three to get the win.

A true winner of the tournament wasn’t decided because weather related issues cancelled games on Friday, March 1 including Fort Mill’s game.

Fort Mill and Catawba Ridge are scheduled to square off this week with the first of two games being Wednesday, March 6 at Fort Mill and the second game being Friday, March 8 at Catawba Ridge.

The Nation Ford baseball team finished second in the Red Bank Invitational at White Knoll losing to Sumter 5-4 in nine innings in the finals. Bradyn Deaton led Nation Ford going 2-4 with two RBIs.

The loss drops Nation Ford to 3-1 on the season. Up next for the Falcons is a road game at Marvin Ridge Tuesday, March 5.
