High School Baseball in Fort Mill

Both Fort Mill and Catawba Ridge baseball teams won Saturday in their respective Lowcountry tournaments.

Fort Mill beat Socastee 10-0 in the Coastal Invitational at Waccamaw High School and Catawba Ridge beat TL Hanna 2-1 in the IP Classic in Georgetown.

The Jackets were led by Rayce Buskirk who threw a two hitter over five innings and struck out two and walked two. Carter Blankinship drove in two runs going 1-1. Braden Richardson and Brent Laughter went 2-3 with an RBI in the win.

Fort Mill got off to a hot start scoring four runs in the first and then adding three more in the third as they scattered 11 hits in the game to improve to 2-0 on the season.

They are scheduled to play North Myrtle Beach on Sunday, March 3. There are no finals in the tournament as Friday, March 1 was washed out because of rain.

In Georgetown, Catawba Ridge improved to 3-0 on the season with a 4-3 walk-off win by the Copperheads for the second consecutive day. Jackson Mullen singled to score the game winning run for Catawba Ridge in the game which was shorted by a time limit because of weather backing up the schedule in the tournament.

Aiden Cattarin got the win pitching three innings of relief without allowing a run or a hit and striking out four. Sam Schwamb hit a game tying home run before Mullen had the game winning hit.

Nation Ford is playing in the Red Bank Invitational and had their game postponed for the second day in a row. They are currently 3-0 on the season. They are scheduled to play Sumter Sunday, March 3 in the finals.

March 2 Roundup

The Nation Ford boys’ and girls’ soccer team continued to win at the coast as the varsity girls team beat Socastee 7-0 and the boys’ soccer team beat St. James in penalty kicks. The Nation Ford boys are now 9-1-1 on the season, while the Lady Falcons improved to 4-2 overall.
