Fort Mill’s Taylor Wilcox moves downfield as she gets ready to shoot during the Jackets game against Spring Valley Monday night.

The Fort Mill girls’ lacrosse team sprinted to a 17-3 Region 3-5A win over Spring Valley Monday night.

The Lady Jackets had multiple scorers in the game which head coach Kirsten Terry said can be beneficial to this year’s young team.

“I think we have great team leadership this season,” Terry said. “We have a bunch of players that are hungry to score goals. We don’t have to rely on one person.”

Fort Mill wasted no time jumping out early scoring 11 seconds into the game on a goal by Catherine Bois.

They added their second goal three minutes later when Grace Sandler found the back of the net.

The Jackets kept the pressure on Spring Valley midway through the first quarter as they would get stops on defense and then turn around to score on offense getting goals from Molly Bennett and CeCe Shia.

Once the Lady Jackets started scoring, they were hard to stop as Bennett scored her second goal of the opening quarter and Isabel English would score to make it 6-0 after the opening period.

Fort Mill opened the second quarter keeping the pressure on as Taylor Wilcox scored 53 seconds into play. Rylee Raiter scored two minutes later and then Sandler scored 90 seconds afterwards to give the Jackets a comfortable 9-0 lead.

Shia scored just under 6:45 for Fort Mill, her second goal of the half, to start a running clock for the Jackets with a 10-0 lead.

Spring Valley got on the board to start the second half scoring two and half minutes into the third quarter.

Fort Mill came right back as Bennett scored her third goal of the game for a hat trick and then a minute later Shia did the same getting herself a hat trick.

The Vikings grabbed another goal in the third quarter, before Shia would score her fourth and Wilcox would get her second goal.

Fort Mill took a 14-2 lead to the fourth quarter. The Jackets controlled possession in the fourth quarter for the most part with both Sandler and Raiter scoring their second goals of the game. Bennett scored her fourth goal about midway through the quarter.

Fort Mill is now 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in region play. The Jackets take on Clover Thursday, March 7.
