Clover’s River Joye throws a pitch during Post 43’s game Thursday against Winnsboro at Fort Mill High School.

The Fort Mill Post 43 seniors picked up their first win of the season with the help of a one-hitter by Clover’s River Joye.

Joye led Post 43 in the 13-0 win over Winnsboro Thursday to improve Fort Mill to 1-2 on the season getting things done in five innings.

Post 43 took advantage of five Winnsboro errors and nearly a dozen walks by them in the game. Fort Mill only managed four hits in the game.

Fort Mill picked up one run in the first inning to go up 1-0 as Winnsboro’s struggles on the mound started early. Winnsboro used six pitchers in the game.

Post 43 added four more runs in the second inning as Eli Craddock would knock in Drew Brink for Fort Mill to get things started. Craddock would eventually score as Winnsboro would walk three Post 43 hitters in the inning and made a couple of errors.

Fort Mill held a firm 5-0 lead going into the fourth inning, but then scored eight runs in the inning without getting a hit. Winnsboro walked six batters in the inning, hit three batters in a row and made a couple of errors to allow Post 43 to blow the game open.

Joye cruised through much of the game as the only hit he gave up came in the fifth inning with two outs. He also walked a couple and struck out a couple.

Fort Mill will host Matthews Post 235 out of North Carolina Friday, June 9 with the first pitch being scheduled for 7 p.m.
