Post 43 pitcher Preston Schmitz throws a pitch during the team’s game Tuesday evening.

On the back of strong pitching, Fort Mill Post 43 junior team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-0 win over the Kershaw Eagles to open their home schedule Tuesday night.

Post 43’s Preston Schmitz and Zach Young combined for a two hitter as Fort Mill took advantage of four Kershaw errors.

Offensively Fort Mill only got four hits as they scored their two runs with one in the third and one in the sixth inning.

In the third inning for Post 43, Young reached on an error and then made it to third on the Eagles second error of the inning. He was driven in by Alex Smith who had the only RBI for Fort Mill in the game giving them a slim 1-0 lead after the inning.

Kershaw threatened a couple of times in the game and loaded the bases in the fourth inning, but Schmitz was able to battle out of the situation.

Then in the sixth inning, Tyler Causey hit a double and eventually scored on a passed ball to give Post 43 the insurance run it needed.

Schmitz was strong for all five innings he pitched allowing just one hit over that time, while walking three and striking out eight. Young pitched two innings and allowed just one hit, while striking out four without allowing a walk.

Offensively, Fort Mill got the hits they needed for the win. Schmitz helped his cause going 1-3, while Brayden Hampton and Zach Boutwell each went 1-3 as well in the win.

Post 43 heads back to Andrew Jackson High School on Thursday for the third game against Kershaw this week.
