Catawba Ridge girls’ golf team won the 4A Upper State tournament Monday in Aiken.

Playing two hours away from home on Monday, the Catawba Ridge girls’ golf team won the 4A Upper State tournament in Aiken at the Woodside County Club.

The Copperheads shot a 351 to win the 16-team tournament and was led by an 81 from Reagan Lynch in the 18-hole tournament. Her score was followed by Anjali Peddisetty with an 85 and an 86 from Brooke Mehlhouse. Ella Rose Hill finished with a 99 to round out the scoring for Catawba Ridge.

South Aiken and Pickens tied for second with a 361 in the 4A tournament. Locally, York and Indian Land also qualified as well for the 4A state tournament.

Catawba Ridge will now head to the 4A state tournament held Oct. 23 and 24 at the Saluda Valley Country Club in Williamston.

In the 5A Upper State tournament held at Chester Golf Club Monday, both Fort Mill and Nation Ford, who tied as co-Region 3-5A champions last week at the same course, made it to the 5A state tournament by finishing in the top eight teams.

Fort Mill was fourth with a 329 and Nation Ford was eighth with a 345. Fort Mill was led by Sam Benton who shot a 75 in the 18-hole tournament. Mackenzie Finn was next for the Jackets with a 77 and Cayla Cappuzzo had an 82 for Fort Mill. Claire Collins finished with a 95 for the Jackets.

For Nation Ford, Vivian Harris led with a 79. Her score was followed by an 86 from Sara McCaskill and an 87 from Piper Sabino. Katie Griggs rounded out the scoring with a 93.

The 5A state tournament, also held Oct. 23-24, will be at the Mid-Carolina Club held in Prosperity.

The Fort Mill boys’ volleyball team finished their regular season Monday with a win over South Pointe 3-0 (25-9, 25-18, 25-11) to improve to 14-12-2 overall on the season.
