Swimming pool with lane markers ready for a meet

The Nation Ford swim team beat three teams in a recent quad-meet.

The Falcons beat South Pointe, Clover and Riverwalk Academy in the pool. Two of the wins were non-region wins, while one was a key Region 3-5A win for Nation Ford. On the girls’ side of things, Nation Ford beat Clover 105.5-64-5, South Pointe 130-39 and Riverwalk 137-7. For the boys’ team, the Falcons beat Clover 88-77, South Pointe 115-46 and Riverwalk 133-7.

 Nation Ford won four of six relay events in the meet and both the boys’ and girls’ teams are now 5-0 on the season. Winning for the Falcons in the meet was:

Emily Eaton – girls’ 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle

Lucas Grigat – boys’ 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle

Sydney Fink – girls’ 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly

Austin Lockhart – boys’ 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke

George Bujoreanu – boys’ 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke

Ethan Black – boys’ 200-yard individual medley

Julia Pou – girls’ 50-yard freestyle

Sophia Bujoreanu – girls’ 500-yard freestyle

Ava Padgett – girls’ 100-yard backstroke

Nation Ford has their first home meet Sept. 10 against Gaffney and Indian Land.

Golf

The Fort Mill girls golf team beat both Clover and York in a three-way match at River Hill Country Club. The Jackets shot a 210 to win the match, as Clover shot a 232 and York finished with a 239.

Leading the way for the Jackets was Kinsley Delcourt, who shot a 51. Her score was followed by a 52 from Greycen Baker, a 53 from Kristen Guernsey and a 54 from MacKenzie Finn.

Nation Ford fell in their Region 3-5A dual match to Gaffney 191-210 at Cherokee National. The Falcons were led by a 48 from Vivian Harris, followed by consecutive rounds of 54 from Sara McCaskill, Katie Griggs and Fharren Coleman.

Tennis

Catawba Ridge improved to 3-0 on the season with a 6-0 win over Lancaster. All six wins were in straight sets for the Copperheads. Three of those straight set winners for Catawba Ridge were without dropping a game.

Sarah Taylor won at No. 1 singles for the Copperheads 6-0, 6-0 and both Claire Hivner at No. 3 singles and Aiyana Uter at No. 4 singles also won by similar scores. Sara Maleady won at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-3 and Evangeline Kelly won at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-2. In what was supposed to be a doubles match, but ended up being No. 6 singles match for Catawba Ridge, Emily Taylor won 6-0, 6-2.

Up next for the Copperheads is a match at Indian Land Sept. 10.
