A York player tries jumping over Post 43 catcher Brayden Hampton during Monday’s game at Nation Ford.

The Fort Mill Post 43 Juniors stayed undefeated on the season beating York Post 66 to improve to 6-0 on the season.

Post 43 won 12-7 Monday night as Brody Owens went 4-4 at the plate with three RBI to lead Fort Mill’s 13-hit outing. On the mound, Grey Kniedel got the win going three innings and allowing five runs on eight hits, while walking two and striking out four.

“We are swinging it well,” said Fort Mill Post 43 head coach Michael Lewis. “Grey was fine. We just got to work down in the strike zone. We were aggressive on the basepaths. It was a solid win and a lot of guys contributed.”

Half of the Fort Mill offense came in the first inning as they scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning off three hits. Brayden Hampton drove in two runs in the first inning on a single and Owens drove in two runs as well on a double as Post 43 jumped out to a 6-2 lead after one inning.

York tried to stay with Post 43 in the game adding two more runs in the second inning to make it 6-4. Post 43 added two runs in the third with the help of an RBI single from Reid Kazmierczak and then two more in the fourth inning as Owens singled and Bradyn Deaton would double in the inning.

York tried chipping away for most of the game, but never could rally to close the gap enough. Their biggest threat came in the seventh inning with Fort Mill leading 12-5. This was after Post 43 scored two runs in the top of the seventh with RBIs from Killion Bennett and Owens.

After Kniedel came out, Zach Boutwell pitched three innings and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out two. Deaton came in for the last inning and allowed a hit, while striking out one.

Post 43 travels to Rock Hill Tuesday for a key game and then Buford Wednesday. Fort Mill returns home Tuesday, June 28 for a doubleheader against Buford starting at 5 p.m.
