Nation Ford’s Naturee Thomas lands in the sand pit during the triple jump competition at the Region 3-5A meet Wednesday.

Both Fort Mill and Nation Ford split the Region 3-5A track titles with both schools putting up impressive performances along the way.

Fort Mill won the boys region title winning five events, while Nation Ford won the girls region title winning 12 events. Fort Mill boys scored 143 points and Nation Ford girls scored 148 points, with Clover coming in second in both the girls’ and boys’ standings. Nation Ford boys finished third overall and Fort Mill girls finished third overall.

In the boys meet, Fort Mill’s 4×800 relay team, which is ranked 14th in the nation and recently set a school record in the event, won in 8:45.23 and the 4×400 relay team won in 3:34.71.

Jackson Dawson, who is part of the 4×800 relay team, also won the 800-meters in 2:05.05 and the 1,600-meters in 4:30.20. Devon Sibley, another member of the 4×800 relay team, won the 3,200-meters in 10:21.69.

For Nation Ford there were two region champs in the boys meet with Malakai Branton winning the triple jump for a combined distance of 40 feet, 11.25 inches and Clayton Rygol in the javelin with a throw of 129 feet, 1 inch.

In the girls meet, Nation Ford dominated the meet and was led by Katie Pou and Camryn Lorick, both of which won region titles in three events. Pou won the 800-meters in 2:24.09, the 1,600-meters in 5:27.48 and the 3,200-meters in 12:10.28. Lorick won the 100-meters in 12.50, the 200-meters in 25.76 and the high jump in 5 feet, 4 inches.

The Falcons’ Naturee Thomas won the long jump with a jump of 15 feet, 5.5 inches and the triple jump with a combined distance of 32 feet, 6 inches. Ansley Archuleta won the pole vault for the Falcons clearing 10 feet and Tessa Kramer won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.65 for Nation Ford as well.

Nation Ford won the 4×100 in 49.13 and the 4×400 in 4:21.03. Fort Mill had just two region winners in the girls meet with the school’s 4×800 team winning in 10:31.48 and individually, Sienna Lydon winning in the javelin with a toss of 74 feet.

Soccer

Nation Ford boys’ soccer team handled Airport High 7-1 to improve to 12-7 overall Wednesday night. The win finished their regular season. They are 5-3 in Region 3-5A and need Fort Mill to lose to Boiling Springs Thursday to secure a playoff spot.
