Another Region 3-5A match for the Nation Ford Falcons volleyball team resulted in another shutout as they blanked the Boiling Springs Bulldogs 3-0.

Nation Ford won 25-17, 25-18, 25-19 to improve to 9-2 on the season and 6-0 in the region. The Falcons still have yet to drop a set-in region play this season.

The win was a bounce back from losing just their second match of the year Monday night falling to JL Mann.

“I am really proud of them for coming out strong,” said Nation Ford head coach Carrie Christian. “We made some quick changes and did things we hadn’t really practiced. They really have a ‘whatever it takes’ approach this year.”

Nation Ford and Boiling Springs traded points to open the match, but the Falcons started to pull ahead forcing a 13-8 lead before a time out by the Bulldogs.

After the timeout, the Falcons locked in and took a 20-17 lead scoring the final five points of the match to close out the set.

Riding momentum from the first set, Nation Ford opened the second set to go up 6-2, but Boiling Springs would hang with them to eventually tie the set at 14. The Falcons would then score the next three points to go up and the Bulldogs would take their second time out of the contest.

Nation Ford would hold on coming out of the time out and outscored Boiling Springs 8-4 to take the set.

The Falcons opened the third set and didn’t look back going up 8-1. The closest Boiling Springs got would be at 11-6 before Nation Ford would again use their strength on returns to start pulling away. The Falcons would go up 21-12 before battling the Bulldogs down to the wire in winning the third set.

Tennis

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads improved to 7-0 on the season with a 5-1 win over South Pointe Monday. They could have closed out a Region 3-4A title Tuesday, but rain canceled the match pushing it to Oct. 6.

In their match against South Pointe, their only loss came on an injury default by No. 2 singles player Sara Maleady. It was just the second individual match the Copperheads have dropped this season.

Catawba Ridge won four of the five matches by straight sets and won the only doubles match by forfeit. Sarah Taylor won at No. 1 singles for 6-1, 6-1 and No. 3 singles player Claire Hivner won 6-0, 6-3. Also winning for the Copperheads was Aiyana Uter at No 4 singles 6-2, 6-0 and Evangeline Kelly at No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-2.

Up next for Catawba Ridge is an away match at Rock Hill today.
