LANCASTER – The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets wrestling took both parts of a tri-match against two Lancaster County opponents.

Fort Mill beat both Lancaster and Buford to improve to 5-0 on the season.

“We still have some work to do,” said Fort Mill head coach Adam Marullo. “They have some tough kids. They have tougher kids than the score indicated.”

In the battle of the Yellow Jackets, Fort Mill got the best of Buford 57-24 to open the tri-match.

Fort Mill started with three consecutive forfeit wins at 106 through 120 to go up 18-0. Brody Harris, Luke Van Beynum, and Jacob Nally all got wins for Fort Mill by the forfeits.

In the first actual march, Fort Mill’s Cole Wartinger (126) got a first period pin and Grayson Wallen (132) dominated in a 21-6 tech fall to put Fort Mill up 29-0.

Buford picked up a win at 138-pounds to get on the board.

Fort Mill bounced back at 144-pounds with another tech fall victory at 19-4 from Jayden Nguyen.

Buford then had back-to-back wins by pin to close the gap at 34-18.

Fort Mill then rattled off three straight wins with pins by Dillon Monahan (165) and Maurice Lawrence (190). Mason Metcalf (175) for a tech fall win at 175-pounds with a 21-6 score. Fort Mill finished Buford off with a first period pin by Jonathan DaSilva at heavyweight.

Going into the dual with the Bruins, Fort Mill kept a lot of momentum powering their way through Lancaster for an 80-0 shutout win.

Van Beynum started with a forfeit win. Nally, Wartinger and Wallen each picked up first period pins.

Lincoln Greene (138) picked up a 21-2 tech fall and Nguyen picked up a second period pin. Keenan Coston (150) won a hard-fought match with a third period pin and Broden Mitcheson (157) won an 8-5 decision.

Vincent Damico (165) put Fort Mill up 50-0 with a first period pin and Metcalf extended the score with a third period pin, followed by a first period pin from Theodore Ernst (190). Lawrence won with a third period pin, DaSilva got a forfeit and Harris picked up a first period pin to keep the shutout intact.

In the middle school tournament in Chester this past weekend, there were several Fort Mill wrestlers that placed. Winning was Avante Belton, Nicholas Norek, Ezra Herron, and Johnathan Gonzalez.

Finishing second was Mason Fandel, Emett Stein, Aiden Whit, Logan Prinz, Landon Bosse, and Jonathan Stieben. Finishing third was Jeff Hellman and Matthew Louissaint. Micah Kitchton finished fourth.

The Nation Ford wrestling team won one of three matches in a quad at Boiling Springs High School. Nation Ford beat Chapman 41-23 for their first win of the season and fell to Gaffney 42-39 and Boiling Springs 58-23. They are now 1-4 on the season.

The Catawba Ridge wrestling team swept a quad match at Blythewood winning 66-5 over Dutch Fork, 44-35 over Blythewood and 53-21 over Midland Valley. The Copperheads are now 4-1 on the season.

The Fort Mill boys’ basketball team beat Gaffney 67-46 to improve to 6-1 on the season. They were led by Nas Berry with 23 points. Logan Parker scored 17 points and Jermier Nelson added 14 points.

The Fort Mill girls’ basketball team fell to 4-3 on the season with a 70-49 loss to Gaffney.
