High School Cross Country running in Fort Mill, SC

The Fort Mill boys’ cross-country team won the Woodmont Invitational beating 27 other teams in the process.

Fort Mill earned a score of 71 with two top 10 finishes and with all five runners that scored points finishing in the top 30. The event featured 416 socially distanced runners into three different races for the boys’ races and 305 runners in three different races for the girls.

The top finishers for Fort Mill was Alec Lootens in eighth overall in 16:23 and Evan Wey in ninth in 16:30. Devon Sibley was 14th in 16:38 and Jackson Dawson was 18th in 16:48. Rounding out the scoring for the Jackets was Evan Ickert in 27th in 17:06.

The Fort Mill boys’ team has finished first in all four races they have been in this season.

The Fort Mill girls finished second overall out of 22 teams falling only to Greer Middle College. Greer Middle College scored a 66, while the Jackets posted a score of 71.

Leading the way for the Fort Mill girls’ team was Alivia Cleveland, who was eighth overall in 20:02, followed by Avery Moriarty in 10th in 20:05. Angel Kravitz was 14th in 20:22 and Elise Barradale came in 17th in 20:32. Finishing the scoring for the Jackets was Regan Hodge in 23rd in 20:55.

The Jackets next scheduled meet is Saturday at the Darlington Cross-Country Festival at Darlington Middle School.

Golf

The Catawba Ridge girls’ golf team beat both Fort Mill and Northwestern at Waterford Golf Club in a three-way match.

Catawba Ridge shot a 175 as a team with Fort Mill posting a 196 and Northwestern shooting a 197. Fort Mill now sits at 7-3 on the year with the Copperheads being 5-0 on the season.

Katherine Mann led the way with a 41 for the Copperheads, followed by a 42 from Alyia Santiago and a 44 from Kate Gilmer. Eileen Zeoli finished the scoring for Catawba Ridge with a 48.

For the Jackets, Greycen Baker shot a 44 with Cayla Cappuzzo right behind her with a 48. Emily Broshious finished with a 51 followed by a 53 from MacKenzie Finn.
