The Catawba Ridge Copperheads girls golf team won the inaugural Milltown Cup at Springfield Golf Club Tuesday tying a school record in the process.

Catawba Ridge tied the school record, one they initially set in the 2020 4A state championship, for a one-day tournament with a score of 324. The tournament Tuesday put all three local schools against each other with Fort Mill and Nation Ford joining them in the one-day tournament.

Katherine Mann led the Copperheads with a 75 and was followed by Eileen Zeoli with a 76.  Reagan Lynch added an 84 and Kate Gilmer finished with an 89 for Catawba Ridge.

Nation Ford was second with a 373 and was led by their top golfer in Vivian Harris who shot an 82. Sara McCaskill was next with a 90, Katie Griggs finished with a 100 and Piper Sabino was one stroke behind her with a 101.

Fort Mill shot a 381 and was led by Mackenzie Finn with an 84. Cayla Cappuzzo finished with a 90 and Sam Benton shot a 99, while Ava Starosky finished with a 108.

The tri-match was the final regular season match for all three schools as they prepare for their respective region tournaments with both regions playing Monday, Oct. 10 at Chester Golf Club. The Region 3-5A tournament featuring both Nation Ford and Fort Mill is scheduled to tee off at 9:30 a.m. with the Region 3-4A tournament, including Catawba Ridge, is scheduled to go off at 11 a.m.

Tennis

The Nation Ford Falcons tennis team beat Spring Valley 6-0 to improve to 7-1 in Region 3-5A play. Getting wins for the Falcons were Tori Baldino 6-0, 6-0; Lauren Padgett 7-5, 6-0; Ava Baldino 6-3, 6-2; Isabella Neff 6-0, 2-6, 10-0 and Eva Arnautovic 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, Alexa Brenner and Ansley McDonald won 6-2, 6-0. Nation Ford travels to Fort Mill Thursday evening for another region match.

Volleyball

Fort Mill volleyball dropped a match to Rock Hill in Region 3-5A play at home 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 26-28, 25-14, 6-15) to fall to 15-8 overall and 4-3 in region play.

Nation Ford volleyball swept Blythewood 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-17) to remain undefeated in Region 3-5A play and improve to 6-0 in the region.
