Catawba Ridge’s Nala Uter returns a serve during her match against Clover Monday afternoon.

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads girl’s tennis team continued to present a strong team with a 4-2 win over the Clover Blue Eagles.

Catawba Ridge played Clover in non-region action Monday as they begin to finish up their regular season matches. The Copperheads have two more matches, both against local rivals as they take on Fort Mill Oct. 11 and Nation Ford Oct. 13.

On Monday against Clover, Catawba Ridge won three of their four matches in straight sets. Lilly L’Esperance won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3 for the Copperheads. Catawba Ridge’s Nala Uter won at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-3 and Sydney Biggers won at No. 5 singles in three sets 6-2, 1-6, 10-8.

In the only doubles match, Ava King and Gracyn Root teamed up at No. 2 doubles winning 6-3, 6-2 for Catawba Ridge.

The win for Catawba Ridge put them at 10-5 overall on the season.

Across town, the Fort Mill girl’s tennis team beat Northwestern 4-2 also in non-region action.

Fort Mill got all four wins in straight sets as Kate Hill won at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-2 and Esme Bromham won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Kendall McCarty won at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-0 also for the Jackets.

In No. 2 doubles, Maddie Burcham and Hannah Swainey won for Fort Mill 6-0, 6-1.

The win for Fort Mill improves them to 6-5 overall as they prepare to return to Region 3-5A action Oct. 4 against Clover. Fort Mill plays Nation Ford later in the week on Thursday before finishing the regular season against Catawba Ridge next week.
