Catawba Ridge’s Katherine Koehl returns a shot during her match Tuesday against Indian Land.

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads girls’ tennis team has one more Region 3-4A match ahead of them and need to beat the Northwestern Trojans to clinch second in the region.

The match for the region title most likely occurred Tuesday as the Copperheads fell 4-3 to the Indian Land Warriors. The loss drops Catawba Ridge to 7-2 in the region, while Indian Land improves to 8-1 in the region with one match to go against Lancaster Thursday.

Catawba Ridge either won or lost in straight sets with the No. 2 doubles coming down to a third set tiebreaker. Tied after six matches, the No. 1 doubles teams had to play to decide the match winner.

For the Copperheads, Ava King won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and Nala Uter won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Catawba Ridge took the No. 2 doubles winning 6-2, 4-6, 10-5.

Tennis

At Fort Mill, the Jackets girls’ tennis team beat Rock Hill 4-2 to improve to 3-4 in Region 3-5A play and 5-4 overall on the season. Winning for Fort Mill was Adrianna Staniszewski 6-0, 6-2; Kate Hill 6-1, 6-1; Kendall McCarty 6-1, 6-3 and Hannah Swainey and Maddie Burcham 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles.

Nation Ford tennis fell to Blythewood on the road 4-3 to drop their first Region 3-5A match. Winning for the Falcons was Ava Baldino 6-4, 2-6, 10-5; Isabella Neff 6-4, 6-4 and Alexa Brenner and Ansley McDonald 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles. The loss drops Nation Ford to 5-1 in region play.

Golf

 The Fort Mill girls golf team beat South Pointe 187-223 and were led by a 41 from Mackenzie Finn. Cayla Cappuzzo followed with a 45 and Sam Benton finished with a 49.  Ava Starosky rounded out the scoring for Fort Mill with a 52.

The Nation Ford girls golf team won a quad-match against Indian Land, Clover and Northwestern. Nation Ford shot a 191 and was led by a 39 from Vivian Harris.  She was followed with a 49 from Katie Griggs and a 50 from Fharren Coleman. Drew Ruth rounded out the scoring with a 53 for Nation Ford. Clover shot a 208 followed by a 217 from Indian Land and a 219 from Northwestern to round out the team scores.
