High School Football

The days of standing in line at the ticket booth the day of games are gone, at least for now.

The three Fort Mill based high schools are using the Go Fan app to sell tickets to volleyball matches and football games this season. Once the app has been downloaded, all one has to do is type in the name of the high school you are looking for to find what events they are holding. From there click on the event and purchase tickets.

Currently only the three high schools within the district are using the app to sell tickets and not the middle schools. Middle school tickets to sporting events will be limited to family members of athletes only, according to the Fort Mill School District.

Because of the coronavirus there are a limited number of tickets being sold especially to volleyball and football games. The app is not being used for other fall sports such as cross country, swimming, girls’ tennis or girls’ golf.

Due to the limited number of tickets that can be sold, football games will be sparsely populated this fall at the three high schools. All three high schools have limited their football stadium’s capacities.

At Bob Jones Stadium on the campus of Fort Mill High, the Jackets will only be able to host 1,200 fans, including standing room only for football games. Exactly how those tickets will be divided meaning if more is sold to home side versus visiting side hasn’t been decided yet, according to Fort Mill athletic director Dwayne Hartsoe.

At Catawba Ridge, their capacity will be 1,200 as well with 750 set aside for the home side seating and 400 set aside for the visiting side, plus another 50 tickets for standing room only.

Nation Ford will have a smaller capacity of 900 fans equating to 600 for home side seating and 300 for visitor’s side seating. That 900 capacity for Nation Ford includes standing room only.

The 2020 football season starts Sept. 25 for the varsity teams with Fort Mill taking on Nation Ford and Catawba Ridge traveling to South Pointe. The Copperheads will host their first home game Oct. 2 against York and Fort Mill will host their first home game Oct. 2 against Clover.
