CHESTER – Both Nation Ford and Fort Mill golfers qualified for the 5A Upper State tournament held next week at Springfield Golf Club in Fort Mill.

Nation Ford finished second and Fort Mill finished third at the Region 3-5A tournament Monday held at the Chester Golf Club. Boiling Springs won the region title shooting a 305 in the 18-hole tournament. The Falcons were second just three strokes back shooting a 308 and Fort Mill was nine strokes back shooting a 314.

Nation Ford did have one score of 80 or more in their round. They were led by an even par 72 (38-34) from Ben Mills, which was followed by a 75 (38-37) from Justin Wosje and a 79 (41-38) from Harrison LaPointe. Colby McCaskill rounded out the scoring with an 82 (39-43) for the Falcons.

For Fort Mill, Cam Baker was medalist of the tournament with a one-under par 71 (37-34) for the only under par score of the tournament making him the individual region champion. Baker won the tournament by one stroke over Mills from Nation Ford and Boiling Springs’ Andrew Gregory. Baker’s score was followed with a 75 (40-35) from Alex Martin and an 83 (41-42) from Austin Anderson.  Parker Harrigan finished the scoring for Fort Mill with an 85 (42-43).

Four of the five teams in the region tournament qualified for the 18-hole Upper State tournament held May 9. In the Upper State tournament, the top eight teams will advance to the two-day, 36-hole state championship at the Charleston Municipal Golf Course May 16-17.
