The Fort Mill girls’ golf team won the York County Championship at Tega Cay Golf Club Monday.

TEGA CAY – The Fort Mill girls’ golf team won the York County Championship at Tega Cay Golf Club Monday.

Fort Mill beat all York County public high school teams sans South Pointe, who wasn’t involved in the tournament. The Jackets, playing on their home course, shot a 342. Catawba Ridge finished second with a 359 and Nation Ford was third with a 361.

Fort Mill golf coach Sims Reeves said playing at Tega Cay was beneficial in getting the win.

“I think it definitely helped,” he said. “We finally got a good fourth score. Olivia came through.”

Catawba Ridge’s Reagan Lynch was medalist for the 18-hole tournament with an even par 73 playing the Pines and the Cove courses at Tega Cay. Nation Ford was led by an 80 from Vivian Harris and Fort Mill was led by an 80 from Mackenzie Finn. Harris finished second winning a playoff between the two players.

For the Jackets, following Finn’s score was Cayla Cappuzzo with an 84 and Sam Benton with an 85. Olivia Seifert finished the scoring with a 93 for Fort Mill.

Following Lynch’s score for Catawba Ridge was a 91 from Brooke Mehlhouse and a 97 from Ella Rose Hill. Anjali Peddisetty finished with a 98 for the Copperheads.

For Nation Ford, following Harris’ score was an 85 from Sara McCaskill and a 97 from Piper Sabino. Katie Griggs finished things off with a 99 for the Falcons.

The Copperheads are scheduled to play at home at Fort Mill Golf Club Wednesday, Sept. 20 against Northwestern. Fort Mill is next scheduled to play at River Hill Country Club against Clover Thursday, Sept. 21. Up next for Nation Ford as they are scheduled to play at home at Springfield Golf Club Thursday, Sept. 21 against Rock Hill.

The Nation Ford tennis team beat Rock Hill on the road 6-0 Monday to improve to 3-0 in Region 3-5A play. They are 3-1 overall on the season. Winning for Nation Ford was Bella Neff 6-1, 6-1; Ava Baldino 6-0, 6-2; Eva Arnautovic 6-0, 6-2; Lauren Padgett 6-1, 6-0; Alexa Brenner 6-3, 6-3 and Ansley McDonald and Piper Land in doubles 3-6, 6-1, 10-8.

The Catawba Ridge boys’ volleyball team swept Rock Hill 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-9) to improve to 13-6-1 overall on the season.

The Fort Mill boys’ volleyball team lost to Indian Land 3-1 to fall to 5-8-2 overall on the season.
