Fort Mill’s Kendall McCarty returns a serve during her match against Northwestern.

The Fort Mill girls’ tennis team opened the season with a Region 3-5A win over the Northwestern Trojans.

Fort Mill won 5-1 to get the season off on the right foot. All five of the Lady Jackets wins were in straight sets. Fort Mill’s one loss came at No. 1 singles.

At No. 2 singles Kendall McCarty won 6-1, 6-0 and at No. 3 singles Molly Goodson won 6-2, 6-0.

Avalon Stevens won at No. 4 singles for Fort Mill 6-0, 6-0 and in the closest singles match Ellie Corbet won 6-2, 7-5.

Fort Mill also took the only doubles match with Sofia Burger and Smriti Kirubakaran winning 6-1, 6-0.

The Catawba Ridge girls’ golf team beat Indian Land 162-187 at Fort Mill Golf Club improving them to 3-0 on the season. Both EllaRose Hill and Brooke Mehlhouse each shot rounds of 39, while Anjali Peddisetty finished with a 41 and Jordan Lyons shot a 43.

The Nation Ford girls’ golf team fell to York 188-199 at Spring Lake Golf Club dropping them to 1-3 on the season. Piper Sabino led the Falcons with a 38 and Hayden Barsanti shot a 52.  Sydney Pounds shot a 54 and both Layla Wilson and Ava Doan shot 55.
