
YORK – The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets cruised to two more wins to put their dual record at 8-0 on the season.
Fort Mill head coach Adam Marullo said his team is heading in the right direction after beating Blacksburg 83-0 and York 64-9.
“We aren’t where we want to be, but we are on the right path,” he said. “We are heading in the right direction. They are getting better.”
Fort Mill started the tri-match off with Blacksburg and didn’t waste any time as the Wildcats forfeited the first three weight classes as 106 (Mason Fandel), 113 (Peter Escudero), and 120 (Braden Schmidt).
Fort Mill then rattled off three first period pins by Luke Van Beynum (126), Grayson Wallen (132), and Cooper Van Beynum (138).
Landon Bosse (144) won with a second period pin and then Lincoln Greene (150) won by pin in 25 seconds.
Gabe Sipe (157) picked up a first period pin and Ethan Cates (165) got a tech fall with a 16-1 win.
Broden Mitchenson (175) won in the first period and Ted Ernst (190) won by injury forfeit. Both Ben Desernia (215) and Lloyd Shope (hwt.) each won by first period pin.
Fort Mill’s match against York was more competitive, despite the lopsided score.
Escudero (113) started the second match for Fort Mill against York and picked up a 20-3 win to again get the Jackets off to a good start.
Gabriel Glabach (120) picked up a first period pin for the Jackets and Luke Van Beynum (126) won by forfeit.
Cole Wartinger (132) got a second period pin and Lincoln Marks (138) won 7-1 to put Fort Mill up 26-0.
Jayden Nguyen (144) won in the first period and Greene (150) won by forfeit to go up 38-0.
York picked up a win at 157-pounds in a close 10-9 decision and then picked up a pin at 165-pounds, but Mitcheson (175) picked up a 1-0 decision to clinch the win for Fort Mill.
Ernst (190) picked up a 16-1 tech fall and Krystian Villatoro (215) picked up a second period pin. Shope (hwt.) got a pin in the third period and Fandel (106) won with a first period pin to close the match.
Fort Mill will host the Kingsley Classic this weekend starting on Friday, Dec. 12 and on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The Catawba Ridge girls’ basketball team improved to 6-2 on the season with a road win over the Buford Yellow Jackets 39-26. The Copperheads’ boys’ basketball team also won to improve to 6-1 with an 81-59 win.
The Fort Mill girls’ basketball team fell to the Gaffney Indians on the road 60-33 to drop to 4-5 on the season. The Fort Mill boys’ team won 69-53 to improve to 7-2 on the season with a win over the Indians.
The Nation Ford basketball teams split games on the road against Providence with the boys winning 58-57 to improve to 5-3, and the girls’ team falling 75-54 to drop to 1-6 on the season.
