Two local wrestlers won their weight classes as part of the Kingsley Marines Classic at Fort Mill High.

The two-day tournament ended with Fort Mill’s Krystian Villatoro from Fort Mill and both Taylon Winker and Alex Johnson from Catawba Ridge winning their respective weight classes. Villatoro won at 215-pounds and Johnson won at heavyweight and Winker won at 126-pounds.

Fort Mill finished second in the individual tournament with 248.5 team points, behind winner Social Circle from Georgia. Catawba Ridge was fifth with 149.5 team points.

The Jackets had four wrestlers make the finals with Brody Harris (120), Lucas Van Beynum (126), and Lincoln Greene (150) finish second. Greene won his 150th career match during the tournament.

For Villatoro, he won 6-1 in the finals over Hillcrest’s Kyle Jackson.

Johnson won with a first period pin over Palmetto’s Michael Boyd Williamston for Catawba Ridge. Winker beat Van Beynum for Fort Mill at 126-pounds by a 7-1 score.

There were several third and fourth place finishers from both Fort Mill and Catawba Ridge in the tournament.

Fort Mill’s Morrison Murphy (113) beat Jacob McClure from Catawba Ridge 6-3 in the consolation finals to finish third. Cole Wartinger (132) finished third with a first period pin over Eastside’s Owen Salvato for the Jackets. Jayden Nguyen won 9-5 at 144-pounds to finish third for Fort Mill and Broden Mitcheson (165) finished third with an 8-0 major decision over Tristan Mobley from South Pointe. Fort Mill’s Ted Ernst beat the Copperheads’ Drew Coursey with a first period pin for third place at 190-pounds and Maurice Lawrence (hwt.) finished third for the Jackets beating Byrnes’ Jordan Miller in an ultimate tie breaker.

Mason Fandel (106) finished fourth for Fort Mill and Catawba Ridge’s Archer Rozelle (157) finished fourth also.

The Nation Ford girls’ basketball team won their second game of the year with a 45-37 win over Wren during their first home game of the season and are now 2-6.
