Fort Mill’s Austin Brakstad swims the backstroke portion of the 200-yard medley relay during Saturday’s Upstate Invite.

In a meet with 13 girls’ teams and 16 boys’ teams, the Fort Mill swim teams were king and queens of the pool as they both won the Upstate Invite at the Fort Mill Aquatics Center Saturday.

Fort Mill girls scored 259 points with Nation Ford coming in second with 185.5 points. The Fort Mill boys scored 222 points to win the meet as St. Joseph’s out of Greenville County came in second with 144 points. Catawba Ridge boys finished tied for sixth with Greer Middle College charter school as they each scored 59 points and the Nation Ford boys finished eighth with 54 points.

Fort Mill won four of the six relay events with St. Joseph’s winning the other two. Individual winners in the meet for the Jackets were:

Olivia Corbi – girls’ 200-yard freestyle

Anna Kate Halligan – girls’ 200-yard individual medley

Kyndall Brown – girls’ 100-yard freestyle

Jack Dollyhigh – boys’ 500-yard freestyle

Individual winners for Nation Ford were:

Ethan Black – boys’ 200-yard individual medley

Emily Eaton – girls’ 50-yard freestyle

Mackenzie Riga – girls’ 100-yard butterfly

Julia Pou – girls’ 100-yard backstroke

Catawba Ridge didn’t have any individual winners but its highest finisher in a race was Alexander Ritz in the boys’ 100-yard breaststroke with a second-place finish. He also finished third in the 100-yard freestyle.

Up next for Fort Mill is an away meet Thursday, Sept. 16 at Clover. Nation Ford travels back to the Rock Hill Aquatics Center for a tri-meet Tuesday, Sept. 14 and will have a home meet Thursday, Sept. 16. Catawba Ridge swims next this Thursday, Sept. 16 at the Rock Hill Aquatics Center in a quad-meet.
