In a battle of the unbeatens on the tennis court, Fort Mill girls’ tennis team handed the Catawba Ridge Copperheads their first loss of the season.

Fort Mill improved to 4-0, while Catawba Ridge dropped to 7-1 on the season. The Jackets won 4-2 over the Copperheads and will now turn their attention to Region 3-5A rival Nation Ford today. Catawba Ridge now looks to get back in the win column against Region 3-4A opponent South Pointe later this week.

The Jackets got singles wins at No. 1 through No. 3 and in No. 2 doubles. Winning for Fort Mill in No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3 were Ananya Pallath over Sarah Taylor and Aashi Pallath over Clair Hivner 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

The Jackets’ Madison McCarty got a win at No. 3 singles over Aiyana Uter winning a third set tie breaker 11-9 after splitting sets 6-4, 3-6. Catawba Ridge picked up their only two wins in No. 4 singles and No. 5 singles. Sara Maleady won over the Jackets’ Katie Pierson at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-2 and Lilly L’esperance won at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-4 over Fort Mill’s Emily Rimmer.

Fort Mill won the only doubles match as Rachel Templeton and Clara Lake won 6-1, 7-5 over the Copperheads’ Mallory McCart and Katherine Koehl.
