SPARTANBURG – Both the Fort Mill and Nation Ford golf teams are in the top 10 of the 5A state golf championships after day one.

Nation Ford sits at fourth after shooting an 18-hole school record 299. Fort Mill is ninth after shooting a 305. The Falcons are at plus 11, while Fort Mill is at plus 17. TL Hanna leads at plus 2 with a 290.

The tournament is being played at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, which is a par 72 course.

Nation Ford was led by Ben Wakefield who shot an even par 72 (36-36) and Ben Mills with a one over 73 (35-38). Justin Wosje finished with a 76 (39-37) and Carter Smith finished with a 78 (40-38) for the Falcons.

Fort Mill was led by Cam Baker who shot a five-under par 67 (33-34) and is tied overall for second place, one shot off the lead. Following Baker was Parker Harrigan with a 75 (36-39) and Baker Tolentino with a 79 (39-40). Mason Jaeckli rounded out the scoring for Fort Mill with an 84 (45-39).

In the 4A tournament held at The River Club in North Augusta, Catawba Ridge’s OT Mitchell is the lone representative for the school. The River Club is a par 71 course. Mitchell is tied for seventh overall and shot a 70 (37-33) on the first day of the tournament. He is currently five shots off the lead.
