Nation Ford’s Ben Mills led the Falcons to a fifth-place finish in the 5A state championship in Spartanburg.

SPARTANBURG – The Nation Ford Falcons finished fifth overall in the 5A state golf tournament in the Emerald City Tuesday.  

Nation Ford shot a 303 on day two of the two-day tournament held at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg. Nation Ford shot a two-day total of 602 (299-303) and was 22 shots behind winner TL Hanna, who had a two-day total of 580.  

On day two, both Ben Mills and Justin Wosje led the Falcons with a two-over par 74. Both shot a 39 on the front and a 35 on the back. Mills finished 12th overall in the tournament and Wosje finished 18th overall. Ben Wakefield shot a 77 (37-40) on day two and finished 15th overall. Carter Smith rounded out the scoring with a 79 (40-39). 

For Fort Mill, the Jackets took seventh place with a 306 on Tuesday. They shot a total of 611 (305-306) over the tournament.  

Cam Baker led Fort Mill finishing with a two-over 74 (36-38) on day two and was third overall in the tournament.  Parker Harrigan finished with a one-under 71 (34-37) and then Baker Tolentino shot an 80 (40-40) for Fort Mill. Austin Anderson finished the scoring with an 81 (41-40) for the Jackets.  

Both Baker and Harrigan made the All-State team and Baker was selected to play in the North-South golf tournament.

At the 4A tournament in North Augusta, Catawba Ridge’s OT Mitchell shot a 72 (36-35) to finish plus one on day two of the tournament. The score was enough to give him a two-day total of 142 (70-72) as he was the only golfer in the tournament to finish exactly at even par. The score was good enough for him to make the All-State team as he finished eighth overall in the tournament.
