High School Baseball in Fort Mill

The Catawba Ridge baseball team lost just its second game of the season falling in the Hanahan Invitational Tournament in Hanahan, S.C. Thursday.

Catawba Ridge lost to Greenbrier Christian Academy out of Chesapeake, Va. 6-3 after getting off to a slow start.

The Copperheads got just four hits and went down 3-0 after the first inning. Britton Nash got Catawba Ridge’s first hit in the fifth inning driving in pinch runner Ethan Solnick, but the Copperheads was down 5-1 at that point.

Catawba Ridge added two runs in the sixth inning. Caden Glauber walked, which led to a two-run home run by Jackson Mullen to close the gap to 5-3. Mullen went 1-3 with two RBIs in the game to lead the Copperheads. Nash went 2-3 with an RBI as well.

On the mound, Aiden Cattarin got the start for the Copperheads. He went three and two third innings allowing five runs on five hits and walking three. Gavin Oberg went one and a third inning without allowing a hit. He struck out two and walked one. Zach Boutwell finished out the game pitching an inning and allowing a run in two hits.

Catawba Ridge will resume their regular season on Monday, April 8 at home starting a three-game series against Indian Land.

Fort Mill

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets dropped their second game in a row falling to the DeMatha Catholic School Stags in the Southeastern Baseball Classic in Hartsville.

Fort Mill fell 8-2 to the Maryland based team and dropped to 10-4 overall on the season. 

DeMatha jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings, as Fort Mill struggled offensively early on and managed to get just six hits.

Carter Blankinship started the top of the fourth inning off with a double, followed by a single by Josh Patterson. Blankinship scored on a fielder’s choice by Michael Rogers.

DeMatha added two more runs in the fifth to go up 8-1, before Fort Mill could scratch another run across. Blankinship drove in a run in the sixth inning as he would go 3-3 with an RBI and two doubles in the game.

Fort Mill used four pitchers in the game with John Dober getting the start. Dober went one and two third innings allowing six runs on four hits, while also walking four and striking out four.

Rayce Buskirk pitched two and two third innings allowing one run on two hits and Thomas Ealey went two-thirds of an inning allowing one run on one hit.

Fort Mill will play again tomorrow in the tournament against a team to be determined.
