Fort Mill’s Emma Marchan led the way for the Jackets against Nation Ford Thursday with six goals.

The Fort Mill girls’ lacrosse team stayed perfect in Region 3-5A play with an impressive 21-6 win over rivals Nation Ford Thursday.

Fort Mill improved to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in the region with the win. Head coach Kirsten Terry said her team did what they needed to at Nation Ford and she couldn’t have asked for anything else.

“The teamwork was amazing,” she said. “They all played really well.”

Fort Mill controlled the match from the opening face off and rattled off eight consecutive goals to open the game and go up 8-0 in the first 10 minutes of play.

Nation Ford’s first goal of the game came from Ann Windell with 14:37 left in the first half. Fort Mill scored the next goal, before Mia MacMillian would come right back for Nation Ford with the first of two goals in the game to make it 9-2. It would be the closest that the Falcons would get the rest of the game, as the Jackets rattled off five more goals to go up 14-2 at the half.

The Falcons made some defensive changes at the half, which helped some, as they were able to play better the rest of the match. However, Fort Mill was still strong offensively and outscored Nation Ford 7-4 in the second half.

With the loss, Nation Ford dropped to 3-4 on the season and 1-3 in region play. The Falcons still have two more region games against Boiling Springs and Clover. Nation Ford head coach Kristine Schmidt said she knows the team has the potential to be a playoff team.

“We had gotten to the point where we are playing together,” she said. “Fort Mill is just so strong. I think we can compete with nearly anybody.”

Fort Mill was led by several players scoring hat tricks. Emma Marchan scored six goals and Lydia Laney added five goals for the Jackets. Both Auri French and Natalie Michelow each added four goals for Fort Mill, while Taylor Wilcox and Sydney Wilcox each scored a goal as well.

Up next for Fort Mill is Chapin on the road March 21 and Nation Ford host AC Flora at home March 21 as well.
