Catawba Ridge’s Lilly Lesperance helped to lead the Copperheads to a region opening win Tuesday.

The Catawba Ridge girl’s tennis team opened Region 3-4A play Tuesday evening with a shutout win over the South Pointe Stallions on the road.

Catawba Ridge won 6-0 with each match the Copperheads winning in straight sets. In No. 1 singles, Lilly Lesperance won in two sets 6-1, 6-6 (7-1) with a second set tiebreaker to get the win.

At No. 2 singles for the Copperheads, Katherine Koehl won 6-4, 6-1 and at No. 3 singles Mallory McCart won 6-0, 6-1 for Catawba Ridge.

The fourth and fifth singles players were just as dominate for Catawba Ridge. At No. 4 singles Ava King won 6-0, 6-1 and Eve Kelly won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles as well for the Copperheads.

In the only doubles match, Nala Uter and Gracyn Root won 6-0, 6-0 for Catawba Ridge.

Now 2-2 on the season, Catawba Ridge is next scheduled to play Sept. 1 against another region opponent hosing York.

Golf

The Catawba Ridge girls golf team finished seventh out of 22 teams in the Lady Rebel Tournament at River Falls Country Club in Duncan. The Copperheads shot a 349 as a team.

Eileen Zeoli placed second overall with a one-under 71. Her score was followed with an 82 from Reagan Lynch and an 88 from Katherine Mann. Jordan Lyons rounded out the scoring with a 108 for Catawba Ridge. EllaRose Hill won the closest to the pin on the sixth hole of the tournament for the Copperheads.

Swimming

The Fort Mill swim team swept a quad-meet beating three other teams in Riverwalk Academy, South Pointe and York.

The Fort Mill boys beat Riverwalk 140-5, York 140-15 and South Pointe 136-29. The Fort Mill girls won beating Riverwalk 140-0, York 138-22 and South Pointe 137-25.

Fort Mill won all six relay events and every single individual event except one.  Individuals winning for Fort Mill was:

Anna Kate Halligan – girls’ 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke

Turner Wiand – boys’ 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke

Olivia Corbi – girls’ 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke

Cadyn Henson – girls’ 50-yard freestyle

Max Reichert – boys’ 50-yard freestyle

Celina Vu – girls’ 100-yard butterfly

Jack Dollyhigh – boys’ 100-yard butterfly

Owen Fey – boys’ 100-yard freestyle

Isabella Byerly – girls’ 500-yard freestyle

Caden Wolf – boys’ 500-yard freestyle
