Catawba Ridge golfer Katherine Mann led the Copperheads on day one of the 4A state tournament in Hilton Head.

The Catawba Ridge girls’ golf team are within striking distance of a 4A state championship as they sit in third place after the first of the two-day tournament at Hilton Head.

Catawba Ridge shot a 343 in the first round as a team, good enough for third place behind leader May River, which shot a 324 and A.C. Flora, which shot a 332. There are 14 teams in the 4A tournament played at the Barony Course located at Port Royal Golf Club. The course is a par-72 and plays 5,183-yards.

The Copperheads were led by Katherine Mann with a 78. She was followed with an 83 from Eileen Zeoli and an 86 from Kate Gilmer. Alyia Santiago shot a 96 for the Copperheads to finish the scoring for the team. The team consist of just four players thus all four scores have to count.

Hilton Head is in fourth as a team and shot a 344, one stroke behind the Copperheads. The tournament will end Tuesday with another 18-holes being played on the course.

Nation Ford’s No. 1 golfer Vivian Harris shot an 89 (47-42) in first round of the 5A state tournament at the Country Club of Lexington to be tied for 30th place. Harris is playing as an individual in the 5A state tournament representing the Falcons, who missed the tournament as a team.
