Catawba Ridge’s Katherine Mann led the way for the Copperheads with a 10th place finish at the 4A state tournament to make All-State.

BLUFFTON – With an improvement of eight strokes, the Catawba Ridge Copperheads girls golf team finished third in the 4A state championship Tuesday.

Catawba Ridge shot a 688 (348-340) as a team just five shots out of second place, which was taken by Hilton Head with a 683. May River ran away with the 4A title with a 639. The Copperheads found themselves in fourth after day one of the tournament on Monday, but was able to move up to second before falling back to third on the second day of the tournament.

Hilton Head edged Catawba Ridge on the second day of the tournament by four strokes. The tournament was held at May River’s home course of Crescent Pointe Golf Club in Bluffton. Catawba Ridge did edge out Pickens who finished in fourth by one stroke with a 689 over the two-day tournament.

The Copperheads’ Katherine Mann finished 10th overall in the tournament with a two-day total of 158 (77-81) and made the All-State team. Eileen Zeoli was 14th overall with a 163 (84-79) followed by Kate Gilmer in 17th with a 166 (86-80). Reagan Lynch came in 54th overall with a 201 (101-100).

In the 5A tournament at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, the lone representative locally was Nation Ford’s Vivian Harris. Harris shot a 161 (82-79) and finished tied for 22nd overall. She moved up three spots after sitting in 25th overall after day one of the tournament.

Blythewood won the 5A team title.
