
The Nation Ford Falcons boys’ volleyball team played well against the Indian Land Warriors, but wasn’t able to take advantage of the stronger opponent.
Nation Ford lost in three sets falling 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 25-16) as Indian Land seemed to get stronger as the match went on. The loss dropped Nation Ford to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in Region 3-5A.
“We played well,” said Nation Ford head coach Amanda Scott. “We didn’t do the little things and that cost us. We are so close to being amazing. We just have to get it in the right order. I am really proud of Matthew (Scott). We have to clean some things up. We have one of the hardest regions in the state.”
Nation Ford scored first to open the match, but Indian Land quickly showed why they are defending Upper State champions. Indian Land quickly surged to a 12-6 lead finding open spots to place their kills and sending the Falcons into a timeout.
The Falcons were able to rally and pull within two at 14-12, before Indian Land took a timeout.
The two teams started trading points and neither were able to make a run as they were tied at 20. Nation Ford went up 23-20, but the Warriors stormed back to tie the set at 23 before a Falcons timeout.
The two teams pushed each other into extra serves as Indian Land pulled ahead to take the set 27-25 to go up 1-0.
The second set started like the first as it was close early, but then the Falcons went up 8-4 forcing the Warriors into a timeout. Indian Land came back out of the timeout to tie the set at nine.
It was Indian Land’s turn to pull away as they went up 14-9. However, the Warriors struggled to keep the Falcons at bay as Nation Ford rallied to pull within two.
Despite the rally, the Falcons couldn’t tie the set as Indian Land was strong enough at the net without allowing Nation Ford to return the ball.
Indian Land was able to keep the lead and won the set to go up 2-0.
The Warriors started strong again in the third set, but couldn’t shake Nation Ford which hung with them for a while.
Indian Land started to pull away going up 10-7. After a timeout, the Warriors continued to increase their lead going up 16-8.
Nation Ford struggled with finding spots to place the ball as Indian Land picked up the aggression at the net. On defense, the Warriors were also able to block the Falcons shots which helped to lead them to the sweep of the Falcons.

The Nation Ford girls’ tennis team beat Indian Land 5-1 to improve to 2-0 on the season. Winning for Nation Ford was Ansley McDonald 6-0, injury forfeit; Piper Land 6-3, 6-4; Teja Guntuboyina 6-4, 6-0; Jiya Guntuboyina 6-4, 7-5; and Eva Mabey 6-1, 6-1.
The Nation Ford girls’ golf team fell to Indian Land 179-195 at Edgewater Golf Club. The Falcons were led by Madi Carroll with a 47. She was followed by Carolyn Miller with a 48 and both Ava Doan and Layla Wilson shot rounds of 50. Nation Ford is now 1-4 on the season.
The Nation Ford girls’ volleyball team swept Indian Land winning 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-9) to improve to 2-0 in Region 3-5A and 7-4 overall.
The Fort Mill girls’ volleyball team fell to Rock Hill 3-2 (25-14, 19-25, 18-25, 25-19, 13-15) to fall to 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in Region 3-5A.
