Brigette McSheehan has been named interim Athletic Director at Nation Ford High School.

Brigette McSheehan started the academic year as an assistant principal at Nation Ford High School but will be finishing it as the school’s athletic director.

McSheehan started her new role at the school this week and has been an assistant principal at the school since January 2023 coming over to Nation Ford from Rock Hill High School, where she was an assistant principal there from 2020. She was at Rock Hill High as a teacher from 2012 through 2020 before being promoted to assistant principal.

McSheehan said she was able to see the culture of Nation Ford at some of the athletic events and knew she wanted to be apart of it.

“I saw the excitement around the school,” she said. “It allowed me to see the kids enjoyed and wanted to be at the school.”

She said there is a sense of family at Nation Ford with everyone looking out for each other.

“It is a very enjoyable place to work,” she said.

McSheehan has been an assistant basketball and track coach at Marvin Ridge High, before going to Rock Hill High School. Once she got to Rock Hill High, she was an assistant track coach there, as well as girl’s JV volleyball and basketball coach.

“Athletics has always been my passion,” she said. “I got into teaching because I wanted to be a basketball coach. I have always had a sports and athletic background.”

McSheehan talked with Nation Ford Principal Chris Chandler about transitioning from being an assistant principal at the school to athletic director for the remainder of the school year, after Bryan Dillon resigned less than a month ago.

“We have a strong admin team now,” she said. “He (Chandler) felt strong they would be able to continue to operate well.”

McSheehan said that it is too early in the process for her to tell if she wants to pursue the roll full time. The school will be looking for a new full time athletic director starting in spring of 2026 to take over at the start of the 2026-2027 school year.

She said she wants to establish policy and procedures within the athletic department as her main goal during the current academic year. She said she also wants to establish a sense of safety with the coaching staff.

“I want them to feel like they can come to me if they have concerns or need stuff,” she said. “I think that can be improved.”

McSheehan graduated from Western Carolina University and has a Masters in Education from American College.
