Post 43 pitcher Roman Ricci throws a pitch during game two of a doubleheader against York Post 66 on June 30.

The fourth time was the charm, as Fort Mill Post 43 Juniors swept a doubleheader from York Post 66.

Fort Mill finally finished a game with York that was rained out on three different occasions in game one of the doubleheader and then won game two getting the only run of the game late. The two wins put Post 43 at 8-2 overall in the season.

Fort Mill started the first game picking things up in the fourth inning playing as the road team.

Post 43 led 3-0 when the game started, but York scored a run in the bottom of the fourth off reliever Blake Chatman.

Fort Mill got some base runners for the next couple innings, but couldn’t push a run across.

Then in the top of the seventh, Cole McIntyre walked and Eli Wilson singled. Michael Caropreso then hit a two-run single pushing the score to 5-1.

Declan Erett got the win for the game going three innings without allowing a hit or run. Chatman went four innings allowing three hits and one run and struck out four.

Caropreso went 1-2 with two RBIs and Eli Wilson went 2-3. Jack Provenzano went 1-4 with an RBI.

In the second game, Roman Ricci got the start for Post 43. Neither team did anything in the first inning.

In the second, Fort Mill got two runners on with two outs, but wasn’t able to push anyone in.

Post 66 threatened in the third inning with a two out double to get their first base runner in scoring position, but like Fort Mill, left him standing there to end the inning.

The bottom of the inning saw Provenzano single, but neither team was able to break through.

Cole McIntyre reached on a walk in the fifth inning and then made it to third, but failed to give Post 43 a run.

Fort Mill finally broke through in the sixth inning.

Wilson walked and then stole second base. He reached third on a York error. Matt Scott then drove in Wilson on an RBI single.

Fox Thorpe took the mound in the seventh inning for Ricci. Ricci went six innings allowing four hits, while walking three and striking out one. Thorpe walked two and struck out one, but was able to get the save as Fort Mill won 1-0.

Post 43 got just two hits in the game with both Scott and Provenzano each going 1-2 at the plate with Scott getting an RBI.

Fort Mill will play on the road at Lancaster July 1 and then host Rock Hill July 2 to finish the regular season.
