Carter Czapla got the start for Fort Mill Post 43 at Lancaster on Tuesday, June 17.

LANCASTER – The Fort Mill Post 43 Juniors dropped their first game of the season, falling to Lancaster Post 31.

Post 43 fell 3-2 to Lancaster and dropped to 2-1 on the season with the loss.

Lancaster grabbed a run in the bottom of the first inning after Anthony Twitty hit a single scoring Ethan Bufford who reached on an error.

Fort Mill was able to make contact, but couldn’t make much happen. Connor Fowler did single in the top of the second and stole a base, but that was all Post 43 could make happen in the inning.

In the bottom of the third, Lancaster added two more runs off a couple singles and an error by Post 43. Lancaster’s Dayton Hollenbeck singled and scored on an error. Duke Foster, who reached on an error, would score in a single by DJ Hayden.

Carter Czapla would be replaced by Matthew Scott in the inning. Czapla went two and two third innings allowing three runs in three hits, while allowing a walk and striking out three.

Fort Mill got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. James Carlin and Fowler both walked and Eli Wilson was hit by a pitch. Carlin would come around and score on a wild pitch to give Post 43 a run.

In the bottom half of the inning, Lancaster threatened getting two on, but Scott was able to get out of the jam without a run scoring.

Blake Chatman and Declan Errett both singled for Post 43 in the fifth, but Fort Mill couldn’t push them across.

The bottom of the inning saw Twitty walk with one out before Scott was pulled from the mound for Jack Provenzano. Scott went one and two third innings, without allowing a hit or a run, but walked one and struck out two.

Fort Mill rallied in the top of the seventh to score a run, but it wasn’t enough to get the win. Post 43 scored a run on a wild pitch as Michael Caropreso, who walked earlier in the inning, was one of three walks in the inning for Fort Mill.

Post 43 was led at the plate by Caropreso, who went 1-3 with a run scored. Fort Mill had just four hits in the game, as no one player had more than one hit for Post 43.

Fort Mill will host Post 31 on Thursday, June 19 at Fort Mill High in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
