
The Fort Mill girls’ lacrosse team is still looking for their first win of the season as the rebuilding has started.
The Jackets dropped to 0-3 with a 15-9 loss to the Chapin Eagles on Thursday, March 6.
“We just have to come out and play hard every day,” said Fort Mill head coach Kirsten Terry. “It’s a rebuilding year. We have good leadership on this team. We will be ok.”
Fort Mill was able to score initially as CeCe Shia scored first for the Jackets about 90 seconds into the game. But Chapin wasn’t bothered by the cold as they jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first four minutes.
With 5:15 left in the first quarter, Molly Bennett scored for Fort Mill to cut into the Chapin lead.
The Eagles opened the second quarter scoring about two minutes into play. Shia was able to help the Jackets keep pace as she scored two minutes later.
Fort Mill started controlling possession more which led to them being able to get shot attempts. Cathrine Bois scored for Fort Mill with 5:26 left in the opening half to tie the match at four.
Chapin won the ensuing face off and took their time setting up a shot before regaining the lead as they scored with two minutes remaining in the second quarter.
The Eagles kept possession and then scored with two seconds left to go into the half leading 6-4.
Fort Mill got a penalty shot early in the third quarter, but couldn’t convert. Bois was able to get the Jackets back in the game as Fort Mill scored with 8:44 in the third quarter.
Bennett tied the match at six roughly 90 seconds later with her second goal, but it was short lived as Chapin came back to regain the lead soon after.
The Eagles kept their foot on the gas scoring three more goals quickly to go up 10-6 after Fort Mill turnovers.
Fort Mill was able to regain some footing and get a shot off before the end of the third quarter, but Chapin’s five consecutive goals put the Jackets down 11-6 entering the fourth quarter.
Chapin scored 30 seconds into the fourth, but Shia was able to help stop the bleeding from the Jackets with her third goal of the game at 10:50.
Fort Mill continued cutting into the Chapin lead as Clare Roland scored for the Jackets pulling them to within four with eight minutes remaining.
Bennett got a hat trick for Fort Mill with her third goal midway through the fourth quarter.
After three consecutive goals by the Jackets, Chapin scored with less than three minutes remaining and shifted the momentum back into their corner. They would add two more goals before the end of the match.

The Nation Ford girls’ lacrosse team dropped to 0-2 on the season with a 16-2 loss to Myers Park.
The Nation Ford baseball team beat Lewisville 5-2 to improve to 2-1 on the season.
