Nation Ford’s Grace Dunnery goes to head a pass during the Lady Falcons game against White Knoll Tuesday evening.

The Nation Ford Lady Falcons soccer team earned a 3-0 shutout in their home opener over the White Knoll Timberwolves Tuesday.

Nation Ford is very young this year with only four seniors on the team. Head coach Christopher Dundr knows he will have to rely on underclassman to be successful this season. The Falcons improved to 2-2 with the win over the Timberwolves.

“It is a work in progress,” Dundr said. “I thought we played well. We made a lot of progress.”

While the weather was dry, the wind played a role in the game with consistent conditions throughout.

Both teams traded possessions often in the opening minutes of the match. Nation Ford had a couple opportunities to score in those first 10 minutes of the game on a corner kick as well as a penalty kick that was stopped by the Timberwolves’ keeper.

The Lady Falcons scored on their second penalty kick of the first 12 minutes of the game as Grace Dunnery was able to find the back of the net putting Nation Ford ahead 1-0.

The Falcons had another chance to double their score about 20 minutes left in the half, but came up short.

For the most part, once they scored, Nation Ford controlled possession for the remainder of the first half. About five minutes before the half, the Falcons’ Addison Ripkey scored off a corner kick to put Nation Ford up 2-0 at the half.

Two minutes into the second half, Nation Ford took their first shot on goal, coming up empty.

The Falcons rattled off two more shot opportunities in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but White Knoll had a stronger back line after making halftime adjustments.

Nation Ford found their way through that back line with a goal for a third time in the game. Eberlee Bolduc scoring on a cross at the 62nd minute to make it 3-0.

The Falcons wouldn’t score again despite winning 50/50 balls and controlling possession for the rest of the match.

Nation Ford is scheduled to travel to Myrtle Beach on Friday, March 1 for their next match.
