The Fort Mill boys’ volleyball team were swept by the Indian Land Warriors in a non-region test.
Fort Mill lost 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-17) and are now 3-5 overall on the season.
“I think we played well,” said Fort Mill head coach Tamisha Martin. “Our intensity picked up. It was their defense that beat us. I think we will figure it out.”
Fort Mill started strong in the opening set as they were able to get several blocks at the net.
Indian Land rallied to take an 8-6 lead in the set. The Jackets were able to keep things close, but struggled to make a run.
However, it was Indian Land’s strength that started to show through as they began to widen their attack.
Midway through the first set, the Warriors made an impressive kick save to go up 19-15, before a Fort Mill timeout. Out of the timeout, Indian Land held serve and went on to take the opening set 25-19.
Fort Mill got off to another good start, but the Warriors kept pace and started to trade points with the home team. Neither team was able to make a run initially.
Aidan Walker was beneficial at the net for the Jackets pushing them ahead at 8-5 off three consecutive points. Indian Land then pulled off four straight points to tie the set at nine.
After a timeout, the Warriors took a small 15-13 lead. Indian Land kept the lead, despite the Jackets staying close. Fort Mill was able to rally tying the set at 21 before a Warriors timeout.
Indian Land came out of the timeout scoring three of the next four points before a Fort Mill timeout. The Jackets tied the set at 24 after a timeout, but the Warriors would take the second set 26-24 to go up 2-0.
Fort Mill scored first again to start the third set, but was unable to keep it going as Indian Land quickly went up 7-3 before a Jackets timeout.
The Warriors maintained control after the timeout and started to pull away from Fort Mill at 13-6. The Jackets took another timeout trying to regroup trailing 17-9.
Fort Mill played well out of the timeout, but wasn’t able to make a push as Indian Land swept the match winning the third set 25- 17.
The Jackets will play against Catawba Ridge on Sept. 8.
Sept. 1 Roundup
On Tuesday, the Nation Ford girls’ volleyball team beat South Pointe 3-0 to improve to 6-1 on the season and open Region 3-4A with a win. The Nation Ford boys’ volleyball team fell to 2-6 on the season with a 3-2 loss to Rock Hill.
The Catawba Ridge girls’ volleyball team beat Indian Land 3-0 and are now 7-5 on the season and 1-0 in Region 3-4A. The Catawba Ridge boys’ volleyball team fell to Indian Land 3-2 and are now 4-3 on the season and 0-1 in region play.
The Catawba Ridge girls’ tennis team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 6-0 win over Indian Land as they started Region 3-4A play at 1-0.
The Nation Ford swim team went 6-0 on Sept. 1 sweeping a meet against Andrew Jackson, Buford, Indian Land, Lancaster, South Pointe, and Clover. Winning for Nation Ford was Kenna Zimmerly, Jude Cross, Gray Reiger, Blakely Hyche, Levi Vaden, Abby Garcia, Nicholas Giraldo, and Brittany Fink.
