EASLEY – The Smithfields Country Club won in the first round of the 5A Division II girls’ state golf championship Monday.

The par 72 course had none of the 87 golfers in the two-day tournament shoot under par as three players are currently tied for the lead with an 85 after the first round.

Chapin leads the tournament with a 303 after day one with TL Hanna being 10 shots behind at 313. Of the local teams, Catawba Ridge currently sits fifth with a 368.

Ella Rose Hill and Reagan Lynch each shot an 88 for Catawba Ridge as they were tied for 15th as individuals. Brooke Mehlhouse shot a 93 (46-47) and both Jordan Lyons and Anjali Peddisetty each shot a 99 on day one.

Fort Mill is 11th with a 396 after the opening round. They were led by a 92 (44-48) from Claire Collins. Sam Benton shot a 94 (47-47) and Lauren Venino shot a 95 (45-50) for the Jackets. Fort Mill had their scores rounded out with a 113 (53-60) from Campbell Grant.

Nation Ford is tied for 13th with Berkeley with a 404. Sara McCaskill led the way with a 90 (42-48) and Piper Sabino was close by with a 95 (46-49).  Katie Griggs shot a 102 (48-54) for the Falcons and Hadley Mark finished with a 117 (58-59) for them as well.

The second round is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 29.
