All three Fort Mill high school tennis teams recently came away with wins over region competition.

Fort Mill blanked York 6-0, Nation Ford beat Boiling Springs 5-1 and Catawba Ridge shutout York 6-0 in those wins.

Nation Ford remained undefeated in the win over Boiling Springs improving to 5-0 on the season. The Falcons split two matches in three sets dropping one of them at No. 1 singles and winning one at No. 3 singles. That win came from Tanvi Sikka, who won 6-4, 6-7, 10-7.

Winning for Nation Ford was No. 2 singles Alexandra Cardona 6-4, 6-3; No. 4 singles Merra Patel 6-0, 6-0; and No. 5 singles Neha Arunprakash 6-4, 6-0. In the only doubles match, Lauren Padgett and Bella Neff teamed to win 7-6, 6-4.

Also remaining undefeated was Catawba Ridge with a win over York to improve to 5-0 on the season. Five of the six wins came in straight sets with the one three-set match being a win from No. 5 singles player Evangeline Kelly.

Other Copperheads getting wins were, No. 1 singles Sarah Taylor 6-0, 6-0; No. 2 singles player Sara Maleady 6-0, 6-2; No. 3 singles player Claire Hivner 6-1, 6-1 and No. 4 singles player Aiyara Uter 6-1, 6-0. The only doubles match saw Mallory McCart and Emily Taylor win 6-0, 6-0.

The Jackets improved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in Region 3-5A with the win over Clover. Two of Fort Mill’s wins against Clover were in third-set tie breakers. One of those came from No. 1 singles player Madison McCarty who won 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) and the other was from No. 5 singles player Bristol Kershaw who won 1-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8).

The rest of the wins for Fort Mill were in straight sets with No. 2 singles player Katie Pierson winning 6-2, 6-0; No. 3 singles player Sophie Bennett winning 6-3, 6-3 and No. 4 singles player Rachel Templeton winning 6-0, 6-3. In the only doubles match, Fort Mill had Clara Lake and Katie Hill teamed up to win 6-4, 6-4. 

Golf

The Fort Mill girls’ golf team dropped a close match to Gaffney falling 186-187 at Cherokee National Golf Club. The loss drops the Jackets to 4-2 on the season.

Leading Fort Mill was medalist MacKenzie Finn, who shot a 39. Her score was followed by a pair of 48s from Kinsley Delcourt and Greycen Baker. Kristen Guernsey finished with a 52 rounding out the scoring for the Jackets.
