Sam Rich, shown here in a different race, racked up another win over the weekend at the Coaches Classic.

Catawba Ridge’s Sam Rich won the Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic Saturday in a race that resembled more of a Tough Mudder than a cross-country race.

The race was at Hillcrest High in an area that had been soaked by rain for the past several days. The race was moved from the original Newberry course it was slated for because the area was too bad for conditions for not only the race, but for spectators regarding things such as parking.

Despite the change in course, Rich posted a race win in 15:25, respectably decent for the conditions.  Fort Mill boys finished second as a team with 155 points, behind winner TL Hanna, who won with 144 points. Catawba Ridge boys finished fifth with 202 points.

Fort Mill boys were led by Devon Sibley with a sixth-place finish overall in 16:17, followed by Jackson Dawson in 24th in 17:12 and then Evan Ickert in 35th in 17:27. Tanner Long with 46th just five seconds later at 17:32 and then Liam Eident finished 51st in 17:38.

Besides Rich, Catawba Ridge was led by Joshua Silverman who was 18th overall in 16:56. Ty Massey was then 45th in 17:30 and Jackson Rozelle was 62nd in 17:48. Spencer Pridmore finished the scoring for the Copperheads coming in 85th in 18:08.

In the girls’ race, Fort Mill finished fifth with 160 points, as JL Mann took the win with 81 points. Catawba Ridge girls finished 15th.

The Jackets were led by Alivia Cleveland who finished in fifth place overall in 19:17. She was followed by Avery Moriarty in 12th in 19:42 and then Angel Kravitz in 39th in 20:53. Kelsey McGuire finished 41st in 20:58 and then Brinley Ellis was 66th in 21:46.

For Catawba Ridge, Maddy Mack led the Copperheads finishing 63rd in 21:38, followed by Alexandra Cardozo in 73rd in 21:54. Hayla Banish was two spots behind her in 75th in 21:59 and then Kayla Maher was 104th in 22:42. Sophia Commerford rounded out the scoring at 110th in 21:02.

Fort Mill will next travel to Gaffney this week for a Region 3-5A meet, while Catawba Ridge heads to York for a Region 3-4A meet.
