COLUMBIA – Just like at the York County Championship this past Saturday, both Fort Mill and Nation Ford cross-country teams split in winning Region 3-5A titles Wednesday at the Sandhills Research Center.

Nation Ford won the boy’s region title and Fort Mill won the girl’s region title.

In the boy’s race, Nation Ford scored 26 points, with Fort Mill coming in second with 31 points. Winning the boy’s race was Nation Ford’s Mason Haynes with a time of 16:03, followed by teammate Townsend Smith in second place at 16:38. Alex McCaskill was sixth overall for the Falcons at 16:48 and Chase Johnson was eighth overall at 16:53, while Alan Dayrit rounded out the scoring for Nation Ford in ninth at 16:54.

Fort Mill was led by third place finisher Evan Ickert with a time of 16:40. Isaac Campbell came in fourth at 16:46 and Evan Wey finished in fourth at 16:47 for the Jackets. Tanner Long was seventh at 16:50 and Connor Demmerle finished in 12th in 17:28 to end the scoring for Fort Mill.

In the girl’s race, Fort Mill scored 29 points to get the win, followed by Nation Ford who was second with 66 points. Winning the girl’s race and leading Fort Mill was Alivia Cleveland in 19:10. Avery Moriarty was fourth in 19:53, followed by Kaylee Rovenstine in sixth at 20:18 and Mia Zook in eighth at 21:16. Lauren Fredenberg finished 10th overall to round out the scoring for Fort Mill at 21:23.

For the Falcons, Mia Royall finished second overall in 19:44. Elise Posko was next for Nation Ford in 13th at 22:02 and Alaina Mahmood finished 14th at 22:07. Taylor Battle was 18th at 22:09 and Peyton MacMillan was 19th at 22:16 for Nation Ford.

Golf

In the final round of the 5A girls state golf championship, Dorman won the state championship by 29 strokes over Chapin. Both Fort Mill and Nation Ford were represented by individuals. Vivian Harris for the Falcons finished tied for 15th overall with a 162 (81-81) over the two-day tournament at Holly Tree Country Club in Simpsonville. Mackenzie Finn for Fort Mill finished tied for 26th overall with a 173 (85-88).
