Jacob Nally picked up a win at 120-pounds for Fort Mill in their season opener against White Knoll Tuesday in a tri-match.

The Fort Mill wrestling team opened their season in impressive fashion beating both White Knoll and Indian Land by huge margins Tuesday.

Fort Mill beat White Knoll 58-18 and Indian Land 61-18 to open the season at 2-0.

“It was good to break the ice and see where we are,” said Fort Mill head coach Chris Brock. “We have some guys missing and guys out of place. Going forward, I see some issues to get measured out and fixed.”

In their dual against White Knoll, Fort Mill led from the opening match at 113-pounds and jumped out to a 24-0 lead. Grayson Thom opened the match with a forfeit win, while Jacob Nally (120) followed with a first period pin and Aidan Eubanks (126) picked up a third period pin to put Fort Mill up 18-0.

The Jackets’ Logan Shope (132) then added a first period pin to go up 24-0 before Fort Mill dropped their first match. Caleb Brock (145) then got Fort Mill winning again with a second period pin and Noah Kitchton (152) grabbed a first period pin to extend the Fort Mill lead.

Fort Mill’s Cade Simpson picked up a 12-10 overtime win at 160-pounds and despite a loss at 170-pounds by the Jackets, Fort Mill won the last three matches they wrestled. TJ Miller won 8-0 at 182-pounds followed by Joshua Smith (195) getting a second period pin and Henry Debbout (220) winning on his birthday in 17 seconds with a pin. Lincoln Green (106) finished for Fort Mill with an 8-2 decision.

Against Indian Land, Fort Mill went down early dropping the first match at 120-pounds, but Eubanks came back at 126-pounds to get a 15-2 win and then Shope (132) picked up a first period pin to give the Jackets the lead.

Fort Mill never trailed from that point forward as Gavin Mitcheson (138) got a first period pin and Kitchton got a forfeit at 152-pounds. Simpson (160) again picked up a hard fought 14-11 decision, before Fort Mill won six of the next seven matches. Miller (182), Smith (195) and Greene (106) all won by first period pins, while Debbout (220), Thom (113) and Grayson Sykes (285) won by forfeits.

Fort Mill will next wrestle at Catawba Ridge Thursday, Dec. 1 in another tri-match.

Basketball

The Fort Mill basketball teams split with Indian Land with the girls winning 38-24 to improve to 2-2 on the season, while the boys fell 73-62 to drop to 1-3 overall. Ella Marker led the Fort Mill girls team scoring eight points, while in the boy’s game Gabe Tooper led with 14 points for the Jackets. Will Stumpf scored 11 and AJ Washington added 10 points as well for Fort Mill.

The Nation Ford boys’ basketball team picked up their first win of the season with a 59-52 win over Marvin Ridge to improve to 1-3 overall. Sheldon Joseph led Nation Ford with 14 points.

The Catawba Ridge boys’ basketball team improved to 4-0 beating Gaffney 71-67 on the road. Zyan Hager led the Copperheads with 20 points in the win.
