The second day of the North Carolina-South Carolina Challenge didn’t turn out as well for Fort Mill Post 43.

Fort Mill lost to the Queen City Mustangs out of Charlotte falling 5-2 to drop to 5-4 overall on the season.

Post 43 managed just three hits in the game and made four errors. They allowed eight hits and walked five batters.

Queen City scored in the top of the first, but Post 43 was able to rally in the bottom of the second to take their only lead. Drew Brink walked and Hunter Busque singled to get things going for Post 43. Brink scored on a wild pitch and then pinch runner Jaeger Pankowski scored on an error to put Fort Mill ahead 2-1.

Queen City scored two runs in the top of the third inning off a two-run home run to quickly regain the lead.

Both teams didn’t score over the next three innings. Queen City would cling to 3-2 lead heading into the seventh inning where they scored two more runs to give themselves some breathing room.

Eli Craddock went 2-4 at the plate and Busque went 1-3 at the plate to lead Post 43.

On the mound, Seth Hanson got the loss going three innings and allowing four hits, while allowing three runs and walking four. He also fanned three in the process.

Kyle Knoll pitched four innings allowing four hits and two runs while walking one and striking out three.

In other action at the North Carolina-South Carolina Challenge, Florence beat Davidson County 11-1, but then loss to Queen City 8-5. Rock Hill beat Cherryville 13-5 before the Fort Mill game against Queen City.

On Sunday, there are three more games to finish off the Challenge with Rock Hill and Queen City starting things off at noon. Rock Hill will then play Davidson County at 2:30 p.m. and Post 43 will finish the day off playing Davidson County scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

All games are played at Fort Mill High School.
