Thomas Ealey lays down a bunt during Fort Mill Post 43’s game Monday against Winnsboro.

In convincing fashion, Fort Mill Post 43 opened League IV play by beating Winnsboro Post 16.

Post 43 won 12-1 in five innings due to the mercy rule.

Fort Mill started hot scoring two in the first inning. Post 43 started off with four straight singles in the first inning. Owen Noonan led off and was followed by a hit from Simon Fernandez. Cooper Zohner then drove in the first run of the game and Zach Jennings followed with another run for Post 43.

Fort Mill continued to get hits in the second inning, but base running issues cost them more runs for the second consecutive inning.

Post 43 added two more run in the third inning. Fernandez would start the inning and be driven in on a sacrifice by Hunter Busque. Zohner would walk and eventually score on a wild pitch.

Winnsboro would get a run in the fourth inning off a solo home run on their first hit of the game.

Post 43 would get that back and then some in the bottom of the inning scoring four runs.

Jennings doubled in both Noonan and Fernandez. Jonathan Barschow doubled scoring Jennings and Busque singled in Barschow to put Post 43 up 8-1.

The fifth inning was just as productive for Post 43. Zohner singled scoring Thomas Ealey and Fernandez. Jennings then hit a two-run home run to end the game due to the mercy rule.

Jennings went 3-3 with five RBIs. Zohner went 2-3 with three RBIs and Busque went 1-3 with two RBIs.

River Joye went the distance allowing one run on three hits, without allowing a walk and striking out three.

Post 43 is now 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play. Fort Mill will play at Winnsboro Tuesday, June 11 at Fairfield Central High School.
