
The Fort Mill Post 43 Juniors swept both games of a doubleheader against Chesnee Post 48 Red.
Post 43 won game one 11-2 and game two 12-4. Fort Mill is now 8-1 on the season and will head to York Post 66 on Wednesday, June 17.
After a seven run first inning on Monday, both teams went scoreless through the first inning of game one. Chesnee opened the second inning with consecutive singles.
In the bottom of the second, Post 48 Red started walking players. Walks to starter Christian Boston and Blake Chatman was sandwiched between a single from Matthew Scott. Passed balls led to more runs for Fort Mill.
Reid Wackler singled scoring Chatman and a balk led to another Post 43 run. A walk to Max Dunlap and then a single by Jackson Carroll led to Fort Mill going up 5-0, before a sacrifice fly by Brayden Grogan led to another Post 43 run.
Chesnee hit a two out triple and then a passed ball led to Post 48 scoring a run.
In the bottom of the third, Scott walked to start the inning and Chatman and Mac Young both singled. Wackler hit a bases loaded triple for Post 43 to put score three more runs.
Young came in the game to pitch in the fourth inning. Boston went three innings allowing one run on five hits, while walking one and striking out four.
An error allowed a Chesnee base runner before a single scored another run for Post 48.
In the bottom of the inning, consecutive doubles by Chatman and Young scored two runs pushing the score to 11-2.
Fort Mill finished with nine hits and was led at the plate by Chatman, Young, and Wackler, all of which had two hits. Wackler had four RBI. Young went two innings and allowed one run on four hits, while striking out one.
Steven Coppola started game two on the mound for Post 43.
In the bottom of the first, Carroll led the game off with a single. An error scored Fort Mill’s first two runs. Chesnee would make two more errors in the inning to put Post 43 up 4-0. Between the errors, Scott hit a double in the inning.
At the top of the third, Chesnee put two runners on base leading to a pitching change for Fort Mill. Coppola went two innings and allowed two runs and one hit, while striking out two. Brandon Dobson came in as Post 48 rallied to score another run to pull within one and make it 4-3.
Post 43 got a run back in the bottom of the third with Chatman and Carter Czapla both getting singles. Coppola loaded the bases with a one out walk. Micah Ashworth walked and Dobson doubled to score two runs. Carroll singled and Reid Levesque hit a two-run home run. Scott would triple and Chatman drove him in on a single. After all was said and done, Fort Mill scored eight runs on eight hits in the inning.
Carroll came in to finish the game on the mound in the fifth inning. Chesnee scored a run on a couple of hits, but never really threatened.
Carroll, Levesque, Scott and Chatman all had two hits in the second game to lead Post 43. Carroll, Levesque, and Dobson each had two RBI in the game.
June 16 Roundup
The Fort Mill Post 43 Seniors got back to .500 and even their record to 3-3 overall with a 11-1 win at Lancaster Post 31 to take the series. Cooper Diehl went 2-3 with two RBI to lead Post 43. Carter Powell went five innings and allowed one run on five hits, while walking three and striking out eight.
