In what Nation Ford head boys’ lacrosse coach Cory Turner considered a statement win, the Nation Ford Falcons dominated rivals Fort Milll to stay undefeated on the season.

Nation Ford won 18-4 over the Jackets Saturday night at home and improved to 5-0 on the season and 4-0 in Region 3-5A play. Fort Mill is now 3-5 on the season and is 2-2 in region play.

“Our goal was to let the state know that we are for real,” Turner said. “We wanted to play fast tonight. We got some guys coming back that is going to make us better.”

Turner said Jojo Woodberry and Will Alvarado to make the Falcons even stronger as the season progresses.

Nation Ford was strong for three quarters taking an 18-1 lead as Josh Ameo led with seven goals in the game for the Falcons.

The Falcons never trailed in the game and opened with Ameo scoring the first three goals, the first of which came 32 seconds into the game. Owen Ameo would score with just about eight minutes left in the first quarter, the first of two goals for him on the evening.

Alex Bussman got back-to-back goals in the first quarter for Nation Ford and then Hunter Nickola added a goal for the Falcons with about four minutes left in the first quarter to go up 7-0.

Fort Mill finally broke through with a goal from Trent Farley, the first of three he would have in the game with about 2:40 left in the opening period. Fort Mill wouldn’t score again until the fourth quarter.

Nation Ford rattled off 11 consecutive goals in the second and third quarters. Josh Ameo scored twice in the second quarter and Bussman got his third goal of the game, while Luke Letterhos and Ryan Kell would score for the Falcons to go up 12-1 at the half.

In the third quarter, Owen Ameo added his second goal, while Josh Ameo finished his scoring for the game adding two more goals. Letterhos scored his second goal of the game while Bussman added a fourth goal and Trevor Keaton added a goal for the Falcons as well.

Fort Mill did play better in the fourth quarter despite being down 18-1 to start. Farley got two more goals and Charlie McGuire added a goal as well for the Jackets.

“It was a little tough,” said Fort Mill head coach Alex Tindall. “We are down two of our better players. They showed up and we didn’t.”

Fort Mill will next host Blythewood Thursday, March 16, while Nation Ford host Marvin Ridge Monday, March 13.

The two teams will play each other next on Thursday, March 30 at Bob Jones Stadium on the campus of Fort Mill High.

Soccer

The Catawba Ridge boys’ soccer team opened Region 3-4A play with a 7-1 win over South Pointe to improve to 8-2-1 overall on the season.

The Fort Mill boys’ soccer team won 2-0 over Dorman on the road to improve to 3-5-1 overall on the season. The Fort Mill girls soccer team won 6-0 to open the Crescent Cup at Airport High School and improve to 2-3-1.

Lacrosse

The Nation Ford girls’ lacrosse team fell to AC Flora 14-9 and dropped to 4-3 overall on the season.
