
ROCK HILL – The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets cross-country teams swept the Region 3-5A meet at Northwestern High School.
In the girls’ race, Fort Mill scored 27 points besting Clover who came in second with 44 points. Nation Ford was third with 70 points, Northwestern was fourth with 98 points and Catawba Ridge was fifth with 132 points.
Clover’s Ella Nighbor won the girls’ race in 17:37 with Kaylee Rovenstine coming in second for Fort Mill in 18:16. Alivia Cleveland was third overall for the Jackets in 18:39 and Lauren Allen was fifth overall at 18:56. Marlee Cook finished sixth overall for Fort Mill in 18:59, while Bailey Nolin was 11th overall in 19:49 to round out the scoring.
Nation Ford was led by Haley Garcia, who finished seventh overall in 19:01, and Addison Eastley in 19:03 with an eighth-place finish. Karson Woodring was 16th in 20:47 and Elise Posko was 18th in 20:56 for the Falcons. Sofia Gibbs finished out the scoring for Nation Ford with a 21st place finish in 21:11.
Catawba Ridge girls’ team was led by Isabella Cardozo with a ninth-place finish in 19:35. She was followed by Alaina Kilpatrick in 26th in 21:31 and Hadley Cordes in 30th in 22:10. Maeve Beard was behind her in 31st for the Copperheads in 22:11 and Olivia Gillespie was 36th in 22:48 to finish the scoring for the Copperheads.
The boys’ race saw Fort Mill score 30 points with four top 10 finishes. Catawba Ridge was second with 56 points and was led by boys’ region champion Ryan Pierson in 16:10. Nation Ford was fourth overall with 82 points.
For the Jackets’ Owen Ware led Fort Mill finishing second in 16:14 and Finn Leckrone was third in 16:16. Connor Demmerle was fourth in 16:24 for Fort Mill and Hudson Haley was sixth in 16:35. Rounding out the scoring for Fort Mill was Ben Madej in 15th in 17:01.
Following Pierson’s winning time for Catawba Ridge was Aidan Rodgers with a ninth-place finish in 16:46 and then William Kowalski in 16:53 in 11th. Tyler Merrigan was 14th in 17:00 and Jack Sivil was 21st in 17:10 for the Copperheads.
Nation Ford was led by Robert Saddler in fifth place in 16:26 and Alex Royall in 12th in 16:54. Nick Lasala finished in 16th in 17:01 for the Falcons and teammate Alejandro Luna was 24th in 17:18. Sparsh Vaghani rounded out the scoring for Nation Ford in 25th in 17:21.

The Fort Mill girls’ volleyball team fell to Easley in the first round of the 5A Division II playoffs. Fort Mill lost 3-1 (22-25, 27-29, 27-25, 19-25) to end their season at 8-8 overall.
