LEXINGTON – With day one in the books at the 5A state golf tournament, the Nation Ford Falcons sit in sixth place.

Nation Ford shot a 312 as a team and was led by a 76 (37-39) from Carter Smith, who currently sits in 18th place as an individual. Behind Smith was Jake Macheski who finished with a 77 (42-35) and Harrison Lapointe finished with a 79 (40-39) for the Falcons. Justin Wosje rounded out the scoring with an 80 (41-39) for Nation Ford.

The Falcons are only three shots behind fourth place Lexington and one shot behind fifth place Boiling Springs. Nation Ford is 15 shots behind leaders Dorman and Chapin, who are tied for first with a 297 as a team.

The 5A state tournament is being played at the Country Club of Lexington which is a par 72 course. Nation Ford will tee it up again on Tuesday, May 14 with hopes of lowering their scores and climbing the leaderboard.

In the 4A tournament at Rose Hill Golf Club in Bluffton, Catawba Ridge’s OT Mitchell was the lone representative for the Copperheads. Mitchell shot a one-over par 73 (38-35) and is tied for 10th.
