Nation Ford’s Josh Ameo moves around the Clover defense during the Falcons home opener Monday night.

After a season opening loss at Dorman Saturday, the Nation Ford Falcons boys’ lacrosse bounced back against the Clover Blue Eagles Monday night.

The Falcons won 14-3 in a game they dominated from the opening face-off. Nation Ford is now 1-1 on the season.

“This was a good win for us,” said Nation Ford head coach Cory Turner.  “If you would have seen us Saturday, we looked like a first-year team. It’s going to take us about 10 games to hit our stride.”

The game started slow for the defending 5A state champion Falcons, but Josh Ameo cracked the scoreboard with a goal at 6:15 in the first quarter. He would score about 90 seconds later to get things rolling for Nation Ford.

Trevor Keaton put the Falcons score at 3-0 about two minutes after that and then Devin Moll would get into the fray before Keaton collected his second goal of the first quarter with less than a minute left.

The second quarter again started slow despite Nation Ford controlling possession most of the time.

Keaton secured a hat trick with his third goal of the game at 5:45 in the second quarter and then Ameo did the same 70 seconds later to put the Falcons up 7-0, which would be the score at the half.

A short 25 seconds into the start of the second half, Ameo scored goal number four in the game.

The Falcons’ Hunter Nickola got into the action scoring at 9:31 in the third quarter. Five minutes later, Nation Ford’s Aiden Wiltkopf scored giving the Falcons a 10-0 lead.

Keaton scored his fourth goal with 2:44 left in the third quarter and Lukas Billings put the game at 12-0 starting a running clock. Clover would then score their first goal of the game less than a minute later to close out the quarter.

Ameo put Nation Ford back up with his fifth goal 39 seconds into the fourth quarter. Keaton scored for his fifth goal of the game three minutes later to keep the momentum squarely in the Falcons corner.

Clover did close the game out with two more goals before the final horn.
