Nation Ford’s Ben Wakefield helped the Falcons to a sixth-place finish in his final high school golf tournament.

LEXINGTON – The Nation Ford Falcons didn’t move up or down in the last day of the 5A state golf tournament and finished in sixth place.

Nation Ford ended day one in sixth and ended day two in sixth as well shooting a 624 (312-312) over the two days. TL Hanna won the state title for the second straight year with a 593 two-day total.

On day two of the tournament held at the Country Club of Lexington, Nation Ford had two golfers finish with a pair of 77s. Justin Wosje and Harrison Lapointe each shot 77, both with a 39 on the front nine and 38 on the back nine. Both were five over on the par 72 course.

The Falcons’ Carter Smith, who led the team on day one, finished with a 79 (41-38) on day two and Ben Wakefield finished with a 79 (36-43) taking the place of Tyler Kemmerlin on day two of the tournament.

Nation Ford was seven shots out of fifth place, which was held by Lexington with a 617 and eight shots behind fourth place Mauldin with a 616. The Falcons finished four shots ahead of seventh place Conway, which shot a 628 over the two days. Chapin finished second with a 603 and Dorman was third with a 608.

At the 4A state tournament in Bluffton, Catawba Ridge’s OT Mitchell finished tied for 12th with a second round, three over par 75. Mitchell shot a two-day total of 148 (73-75).

AC Flora won the 4A state title with a two-day total of 589 (289-300). The 4A state tournament was played at the Rose Hill Golf Club.
